Christmas: God's Gift is Freedom
God so loved us that He longs to give us Freedom. Freedom from the bondage of sin and death.
Isaiah 42:7 tells us that the Messiah would come to…. “free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.” We needed freedom.
“But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.” – Romans 6:17-18
“I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.” – Ezekiel 11:19
Jesus’s Spirit within us gives us freedom from sin, death, darkness, lies, and captivity.
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – John 8:36
Why is this relevant to us and our church in SLO county? Life abundant and true freedom is only found in Christ. That’s what God offers us this Christmas season. In John 10:10 Jesus says, I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (abundant life).” May the Christian Church live in the freedom that Jesus came to bring. Whatever bondage we are in, Jesus’ power can free us to live new lives in Christ!
